As If We Were Ghosts GPB: TV Special
As If We Were Ghosts features rare archival material of African-American athletes, schools and everyday life during segregation in the South. Included are personal reflections by some athletic greats whose names are as obscure as their tiny gyms and rutted playing fields alongside giants, like Walt Fraiser, who moved through adversity to become a superstar. Their stories and memories shine a light on the achievements of the unknown giants of their day.
You'll meet former players, black and white, as they reflect on the dissolution of the all-black GIA (Georgia Interscholastic Association) in the early 1970's. As If We Were Ghosts is a tribute to the great athletes, coaches and teams of the GIA - the unheralded men and women who inspired those who were to follow in their footsteps.

2010 Summit Planning Underway!
Neighborhoods are the building blocks of the region. They shape its character. They affect the lives of its families and children. They are where “community” begins. The Neighborhood Summit is a daylong event created by The Civic League for Regional Atlanta to foster relationships among community leaders by providing them with a forum to meet, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration. The theme for this year's Summit, "Neighborhood Connections, Regional Voices," alludes to the role of strong neighborhoods in creating a collaborative region.
Who Should Attend?
Residents of the 10-county Atlanta region (Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties), especially those representing neighborhoods, community-based organizations, homeowner associations and civic groups, as well as the business, nonprofit and public sectors. Attendance last year topped 500; this year we expect attendance to be around 700.
Sennheiser Electronics Corporation, producer of world class headphones and microphones, has announced the launch of its Hear I Am competition, which offers fans and bands the chance to attend and perform at music festivals around the world.
By visiting www.hearIam.com, creating a profile and encouraging friends and fans to share music, bands can win the opportunity to play live onstage at the Osheaga Music Festival, which takes place July 31 – August 1 in Montreal, or CMJ Music Marathon, which will be held October 19 – 23 in New York City.
Additionally, bands can win a chance to make a three-song demo with a major producer through www.picktheband.com. The winning demo will receive distribution through Universal Republic.
It's not just bands that can win cool stuff; Hear I Am also offers fans a chance to win. By sharing the music of their favorite new bands, fans will automatically be entered to win the grand prize of a VIP Music Experience, an all-expenses paid trip for the winner and three friends to attend select festivals. Winners will also receive Sennheiser equipment and/or gear.
